Green workplaces: Zum goldenen Hirschen & 365 Sherpas shared design

What does a shared space between two companies with different visions look like in terms of green office design? Plantclub was recently tasked with answering this question through our plant design of the Zum goldenen Hirschen and 365 Sherpas shared kitchen space, a place where cooperation meets creativity.

Zum goldenen Hirschen Berlin focuses on integrated communication - always with the aim of making complex things simple and usually with a socio-political concern. In addition to working with companies and associations, Zum goldenen Hirschen Berlin also works with political institutions such as federal ministries and associated authorities. Working in a shared office space with 365 Sherpas, a creative political-strategic consulting firm, the two Hirschen Group companies wanted to create a place for both teams to come together that also represented the vision of both firms.

Berlin-based interior design studio Dittmar & Friends created a kitchen design that joined the order of the 365 Sherpas brand and the creative side of Zum goldenen Hirschen, working with Plantclub to bring in the touch of greenery needed to bring the vision to life.

“The 365 Sherpas office design is kept clean and straight reflecting the integrity and reliability of the brand, whilst the Zum goldenen Hirschen workspace features vibrant colors and warm shades of wood, representing them as a dynamic and creative agency. Mixing elements from both offices in the communal kitchen unites the individual design languages and brand identities,” senior designer of Ditmmar & Friends Anne Senst said.

Senst added that the communal kitchen between the two offices poses opportunities for a casual, alternative work environment and can also offer social features or quiet time away from the desk.

The central elements of the design, wood, light, and plants work together to create a natural warmth and brightness, curating an inviting feeling that has made the office feel like less of a traditional work environment. The hanging and cascading plants keep the space light and airy while standing plants create a lush natural division, erupting from oak dividers and window boxes. Kentia palms dance between Aspidistra along green walls, tying together the natural elements of the kitchen’s design.

Prior to Dittmar & Friends and Plantclub’s installations, the office space fit the needs of the smaller company they were when they moved in 20 years ago. The new era for both companies after COVID meant a whole new style to accommodate their growing needs and evolution as a brand. Janita Köster, office manager at Zum goldenen Hirschen, spoke on the company’s goal to add a whole new brightness to the kitchen and a “feel-good factor” to the space as they remodeled and adapted to office life after COVID.

“Everyone loves this mix of clarity and warmth, functionality, and design. The plants create a very special atmosphere in the process, becoming an eye-catching feature wall,” Janita said, highlighting the design elements from Plantclub and Dittmar & Friends.

A flourishing monstera and a strelitzia give Zum goldenen Hirschen’s seated area some seclusion.

With the two companies joined in design, the results reflected a synergy between architecture, design, and greenery enjoyed by employees and clients alike.

Summarized by Janita: “Overall, I can only say that the plants clearly contribute to a more pleasant working environment. They improve the air, have a sound-absorbing effect and give many a place more comfort and peace. Without the plants, something would simply be missing – they make the overall impression perfect.”
