Each month we’ll be introducing you to a different Plantclub team member in a series that will pull the curtain back on our unique process. From design to plant care experts, find out more about each moving part that gets the plants into your offices.

The Plant Care Coordinator is the glue that holds the Plant Care team together. The job includes managing, scheduling, and assigning our Plant Experts to their tasks, touching base with and keeping our clients in the loop on their plant care appointments, knowing our clientele inside and out (while keeping the rest of the team informed of pertinent information), keeping our office and warehouse stocked with supplies and plants, and hosting monthly team meetings and events.

If this seems like a big job, you’d be right – and Plantclub’s Angelique Oyewole is just the one for the task. New to the role but previously a member of the Installations team, Angelique has already collaborated on an array of  Plantclub projects, including N26, Nornorm, and Intermate.

Plant care coordinator Angelique Oyewole.

Angelique is known by her teammates as fiercely dedicated, patient, kind, and an enthusiastic people person. There’s much more to be said about Angelique, but we’ll let you meet her for yourselves.

“I have always lived in small spaces completely filled with plants.”

Plantclub: What inspired you to start working with plants?

Angelique: I have always loved plants, I think it’s something I got from my Grandmother. I have always lived in small spaces completely filled with plants. The last couple of years I have also been really interested in interior design. Since Plantclub works with the two things I am very interested in, applying for the job was a no-brainer.

Plantclub: What is your background (education, etc.)

Angelique: I am from Amsterdam, Holland, and have been living in Berlin since December 2019. Before moving here, I graduated from the Jeanschool. That is a fashion design course where the main focus is Denim development, so I am actually a Denim Specialist.

After moving here I started working with all kinds of fabrics, which led to me becoming a freelance seamstress next to being a junior manager at a bar. After a while I started to realize that the fashion (and hospitality) industry might not be for me. I have been very interested in Interior Design for a few years, so I managed to branch out and started sewing for an interior designer. Being a freelance seamstress is unfortunately not the most stable job, so at some point I applied for a job at Plantclub so I could combine my love for plants and Interior Design.

Plantclub: What does a normal day at Plantclub look like for you?

Angelique: Making the schedules for the Plant Care team, being in contact with our clients regarding their plants and making sure that the warehouse is organized and ready to be potted in.

Plantclub: What do you find the most fulfilling about working with plants?

Angelique: Even if I’m working alone in the warehouse, it doesn’t feel like I am alone because I am surrounded by so many living plants. This feels very nice. I hope that we can give this feeling to the people in the office spaces that we rent to too.

Plantclub: What projects have you worked on with Plantclub?

Angelique: Oh so many. I started in the Installations team so I was in at least two different offices a week. A couple of them which I especially enjoyed installing are Nornorm, N26 and Intermate.

Plantclub: What do you think the future of sustainable design is?

Angelique: Thinking about sustainable design regarding plants…I saw something very interesting in the Futurium Museum recently. They were showcasing plants not only being used as indoor/outdoor decoration, but also as a way of isolation by covering the sides and tops of buildings. In my opinion that is a great way of working with plants in a very sustainable way.

Plantclub: Your work playlist sounds like?

Angelique: I like so many different kinds of artists, but at the moment I am very much into ELIZA, Joy Crookes, James Blake and FKA twigs. When I really need to focus I will put on something from Synapse Massage.

Angelique and an alocasia, her favorite plant.

Plantclub: What is your favorite plant?

Angelique: The alocasia zebrina

Plantclub: How do you think plants can change office design?

Angelique: I think that a lot of office spaces can feel very cold. White walls, white desks, black chairs, gray floors, plus an added emptiness due to people opting to work from home. Bringing plants to those spaces immediately makes them feel, and actually be, more alive.
